Well hey there dumbass RIGHT BACK AT YOU or didn't you realize that Christians are NOT the only religion that celebrates at this time of year ?? Have you never noticed all those Menorahs, never heard of Hanukkah ?? Don't you realize that the pagans have been celebrating the Winter Solstice since way before anyone ever heard of Jesus ?? I mean when you get right down to it, Jesus wasn't even born in December, the ancient Catholic church dropped Christmas on the existing Solstice aka Yule season so people would show up. The Christmas tree is an extension of the YULE LOG.
So while you are correct that the word holiday is a contraction of holy day, Christians are NOT the only ones having a party this time of year. Saying happy holidays IS much more generic and not religion specific where merry christmas is pretty dammed specific. As far as the christmas decorations go, frankly since every college in the country is complaining about needing more money and raising tuition the LAST thing they should be pissing away money is decorations. OH, and then there is that pesky dammed FIRST AMENDMENT !!!

WOW, not to jump into the middle of an ongoing argument here, but you DO REALIZE that the KJV of the bible WAS A TRANSLATION ???? The ORIGINAL books of the bible, were originally written in HEBREW at least the old testament, then TRANSLATED to Greek (most of the new testament was written in Greek, infact the word "bible" comes from the Greek word for papyrus, which is what it was written on) then AGAIN into Latin which would be the only version for nearly a thousand years.
Then in the 1300s a man named John Wycliffe did the first English translations (the fact that he was a leading protestant reformer could't possibly have influenced his translations) and then in the 1600s King James came along and did them again !!!! Just 120 years ago the protestants removed scriptures called the Apocrypha from their bibles. They can still be found in Catholic bibles. So far no one can explain why the dead sea scrolls (copies of the old testament) contained books that are not found in the bible, or even Jewish Torahs, nor has anyone explained why the Torah and bibles have a book NOT found in the scrolls. Obviously some one, some where did some editing. Even today, the Jews as part of their studies, routinely debate the meanings of words in the Torah. There are places where changing one word can change the meaning of an entire book. If the Jews, who wrote the old testament and speak Hebrew (though not the same Hebrew from 3500 years ago) are still debating the accuracy of the translations, then it is pure arrogance for someone to hold up ANY English bible and say it is the unaltered and unadulterated word of God.
None of this even begins to address the Council at Nicaea where they literally debated the divinity of Jesus. The question they debated was, whether Jesus was the literal son of God or was he a figurative son, like the other "sons of God" in the Bible. Naturally once they had decided, the bible had to be adapted to fit.
I have read the bible and done considerable research. There is a reason it is called faith and belief. You can believe it is the word of God, and that faith can be a power force in your life. But you must understand that your belief does NOT constitute FACT. The FACT is, by 500 AD the bible had been translated into over 500 languages before the Church decreed that it would ONLY be written in Latin. The FACT is, it has undergone many translations and revisions. The oldest examples in existence were written more than 300 years after Jesus. We have no way of knowing what the original books might have said. You can believe it is the word of God, but to say it is the unchanged, unaltered, unadulterated word is as I have said pure arrogance.
