Blast from the past!! For sale is a used vintage Framus Amateur Arched-back Parlor acoustic guitar in a gloss Brown sunburst finish. Parlor sized, Spruce top with a bolt on Maple neck with Rosewood fretboard, Maple body with arched back. Framus label inside sound hole: Built in the Hearth of Bavaria, Model 00301(faint), 6 digit serial#, Tested by Miller, Framus Werke Bavaria, Made in W. Germany. Based on the appearance, headstock shape & color and very faint 74L? on the label, I think this guitar was made in 1974.
Framus was a German luthier, who produced many kinds of instruments during the golden age of German guitar making between the 50s and the 80s. Framus was known worldwide for their quality and constant innovations. This parlor guitar embodies the spirit of European craftsmanship, with its compact size and rich, resonant tone, it’s perfect for fingerstyle playing, blues, or anyone looking to own a piece of guitar history. This would also be a great recording or traveling guitar! Looks and sounds great.
Dimensions:
38.5" total length, body is 13.75" at widest point of lower bout and 10.25" at widest point of upper bout.
3" wide excluding bowl back
Scale length 24.75"
This guitar has some unusual features. Zero fret, metal string retainer bar, 2 piece maple (vertical seam, one-half showing beautiful tiger striping) bolt on neck with truss rod. Most notable is the bowl shaped arched back that provides not only strength but an increase in tonal output.
The Framus guitar is in overall good condition, especially considering its a played 51 year old guitar. The neck is straight. Fingerboard and frets are without signs of wear. There are some minor cosmetic issues, consisting of light varnish wear, dings, scuffs and scratches along with some wear at the edges. The original finish is in good condition although there are a few hairline lacquer cracks? (no evidence of cracks from inside the guitar). Except for the neck plate, the tuners and other metal parts are not tarnished. The most noticeable cosmetic issue is on the back where something "melted" the finish?? See photos. Please view the pictures carefully and consider them part of the description.
Note: There is a slight gap under the bottom middle of the bridge, but it appears to be securely held in place with a original long metal brace inside the soundhole held by the 2 bolts. This guitar can accomodate either nylon and light gauge steel strings. I left the nylons on since that how I acquired it, but if you want a louder more dynamic sound, switch to light gauge steel strings.
Appears to be mostly original with a neckplate marked Made in West Germany, 3 in a line tuners and bolt-on rosewood bridge. The original white "Framus" name has worn off the black pickguard. 1 original metal strap pin (silver color) appears original, not sure if the white plastic one at the base is.
Transport back in time and experience vintage German quality in a unique guitar with an arched back and a nice voice. These guitars are sought after for their unique sound and vintage charm. Would make a unique addition to any guitar collection. Awaiting a good home.
