Fender '65 Super Reverb handwired conversion by Bryan Toma of Tomatone amps in Tiger, Georgia.
A little about Bryan for the unfamiliar: He is a renowned amp builder and repairperson perhaps most noted for his continued work with the family of the late Gerald Weber handling warranty repairs for Kendrick amplifiers. That said, he also builds custom one-off designs and routinely overhauls Fender reissue amps to be everything you want them to be and more. Safe to say he knows his way around a soldering iron.
About the amp: It started as a '65 Super Reverb Reissue. Bryan removed all off the guts and transformers and rebuilt it from the ground up on the AB763 circuit. He uses top-shelf components including: Custom designed Garolite G-10 fiberglass/epoxy component board with brass eyelets ⁃ Mercury Magnetics Power Transformer ⁃ Kendrick Output transformer ⁃ Mercury Magnetics choke ⁃ Kendrick Electrolytic capacitors ⁃ JJ GZ34 Rectifier ⁃ JJ 6L6GC Power Tubes ⁃ JJ preamp tubes ⁃ Kendrick, SOZO and Synergy coupling caps ⁃ Premium 1 watt carbon composition resistors ⁃ All new potentiometers ⁃ Coaxial leads to preamp grids. Please see the included shot of the internal work to appreciate the fact that this is truly a custom, high quality piece. You will note that this build was completed 12/24, so it is less than a year old now. The "Tomatone" badge comes off with two small screws if you're a purist on aesthetics.
The tone is killer. The Mercury and Kendrick transformers give it a punch and clarity like I've never heard from any other Super, and the high-dollar caps and resistors give it a richness that's missing from the reissue amps. Like a good Super, this amp sounds full and satisfying at low volume and settles firmly into the sweet spot at band volume. It will absolutely turn heads at your next jam night.
Condition is very good. Comes with the reissue footswitch and slip cover. This is a great deal for anyone who wants an outstanding Super that won't need work anytime soon like a vintage. I won't publish Bryan's prices here, but if you reach out I'm happy to tell you what this cost; you will see the value in my price.
